Canada's March rapeseed exports down 12% on-year
Canada's rapeseed exports in March 2013 rose to 685,500 tonnes, up 55% from 441,100 tonnes a month ago, but down 12% from 779,000 tonnes in March 2012.
Canadian Grain Commission said major buyers in March 2013 were China (337,200 tonnes), Japan (238,000 tonnes), Mexico (71,600 tonnes) and the US (38,700 tonnes).
During the first eight months (August 2012-March 2013 crop year), Canada's rapeseed shipments stood at 5.28 million tonnes, down 35.6% compared to 8.2 million tonnes in the same period in 2011-12. Canada is expected to export 7.2 million tonnes of rapeseed in 2012-13, said Agriculture and Agricultural-Food Canada in its May 2013 forecast.
