Armenia to import nearly 50% of required grain volumes
In 2010, Armenia plans to import nearly 50% of the required grain volumes, which correspond to the previous year's results, said Gerasom Alaverdyan, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia, on Wednesday (June 2).
According to the Minister, in 2010, grain production in Armenia is expected at the level of 380 thousand tonnes, at the same time, the annual domestic consumption will total 600-700 thousand tonnes.
According to him, agrarians sowed spring crops throughout the areas of 87.7 thousand hectares. The Minister added that agrarians have already purchased chemical preparations for the campaign against plant pests in several regions of Armenia.
