Brazil's chicken exports rise to 259,200 tonnes in May
Brazil's May chicken exports rose to 259,200 tonnes compared with 248,100 tonnes in April and 187,00 tonnes in May 2006, the Foreign Trade Ministry said Friday (Jun 1).
Brazil's top destinations for May were Japan, Saudi Arabia, The Netherlands and Hong Kong.
Price per tonne averages rose 3.3 percent to US$1,400 in May compared to US$1,355.30 in April, and up 34 percent from May 2006 prices.
Brazil sold an average of 11,800 tonnes of chicken daily in May compared to 12,400 tonnes in April and 8,500 tonnes in May 2006.
Chicken meat export revenue for May hit US$363 million compared to US$336.2 million in April.
Brazil is the world's leading chicken exporter.
