Cargill starts building new soybean processing plant

Cargill Oil Seeds, a division of US agri-giant firm Cargill, has started the construction of a new US$120 million soybean processing plant to replace an existing processing facility in Kansas City, Missouri.

The new structure, which is built to increase its processing capacity from 95,000 bushels per day to 165,000 bushels from, will be built near to the existing building.

Company executives say the new facility is hoped to significantly improve operating efficiencies when it becomes operational in the spring of 2008.

In addition, Cargill together with Paseo Biofuels began construction of a US$40 million biodiesel plant, which should be operational by the end of 2007.
