Blue-ear disease spreads to 16 provinces in Vietnam

Blue-ear disease has spread to 518 districts of 16 cities and provinces in Vietnam, with the northern province of Son La being the newly affected area, according to the ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The disease has affected 150,000 pigs so far this year, of which 66,000 was destroyed.

The ministry requested the Department of Animal Health and Department of Livestock Husbandry to take proper measures against the disease's spread while facilitating the consumption of disease-free pigs in the domestic market.

Despite the disease, Vietnam's total pig flock rose 3% from a year earlier to 27.3 million heads as of Apr 1, according to the General Statistics Office.
