UK animal feed posts no risk for human consumption

The UK Animal health recently completed its investigation on contaminated animal feed and assured that there was no risk found for human health.

A total of 815 feed samples were collected and tested by UK authorities, of which 13 proved positive for low-level contamination.

Movement restrictions on cattle and sheep on farms which had received the contaminated material have been lifted and the animals allowed to be supplied to the food chain.

The UK Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) said last week that the meat from animals which may have eaten the animal feed should pose minimal risk to public health.
