UK poultry market grows 16 percent in value

Poultry market in the UK is growing rapidly, marking a 16 percent growth in value between 2003 and 2007, according to the Poultry Market Report 2008 by Research and Markets.

The report said increased sales of value-added and premium products have played a key role in the growth, while poultry's healthy image has helped to boost volume sales.

Retailers are also responding to welfare concerns in the UK, which creates a positive image for the poultry market and for this protein source, according to the report.

Chicken is dominating the market with 82.7 percent of retail sales by value contributed to it, said the report.

In addition, sales of turkey, duck, geese and pheasants are also growing in popularity.
