Tyson Foods to investigate alleged poultry abuse
Tyson Foods has launched an investigation into a controversial video alleging that the US poultry giant was guilty of "inhumane" treatment in the slaughtering of chickens.
The video, shot by an undercover photographer, reportedly showed instances where workers at the company's Alabama poultry plant company had deliberately mutilated chickens before slaughter, alleged animal rights' group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
In response, Tyson Foods that it was taking such accusations seriously and will scrutinise the "carefully edited" PETA videotape.
Tyson Chairman and CEO, John Tyson, was quoted as saying that the company remains commitment to the well-being, proper handling and humane killing of all animals in their food products and will take any allegations against these principles "very seriously".
