Indian state to maximise canal yield
The Gujarat government has approached the Anand Agriculture University (AAU) to design a project to boost the yield along the canals.
The intention of the project is to attain the maximum advantage from the canal network of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited (SSNNL) for agricultural purposes.
The decision to handover the project to AAU was made last month, in which advisor to CM Narendra Modi, B N Navlawala, approached the AAU to develop a project, which can help farmers who have their farms along with the SSNNL canal network.
''The state government is working on the Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) and we are trying to gauge how the PIM can help us improve the existing crop pattern. While researching on the subject, I thought of approaching the AAU as they are the experts on the subject. I have asked them to work out on the project, which can introduce the new crop pattern,'' Navlawala said.
