US poultry value up 11 percent in 2008
                             


The combined value of production from broilers, eggs, turkeys and value of sales from chickens in 2008 grew 11 percent on-year to US$35.9 billion in 2008, according to the National Agriculture Statistics Service (NASS). 

 

Of the combined total, 64 percent was from broilers, 23 percent from eggs, 12 percent from turkeys, and less than one percent from chickens.

 

The value of broilers produced in 2008 increased seven percent on-year to US$23.1 billion.

 

The value of all egg production in 2008 was US$8.23 billion, up 22 percent from the US$6.72 billion in 2007.

 

The value of turkeys produced in 2008 was US$4.48 billion, up 13 percent from US$3.95 billion in 2007.

 

Sales value of chickens, excluding broilers, reached US$61.8 million in 2008, up 20 percent from US$51.5 million a year ago.
