Hong Kong to resume British beef imports

The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong will resume processing applications for British beef imports under a phased approach with immediate effect.

The centre and British authorities recently reviewed the arrangements for exporting frozen or chilled UK beef to Hong Kong.

At the initial stage only boneless cuts excluding offal from cattle less than 30 months old can be imported from the UK. Each consignment of boneless beef products must have the centre's prior written permission and be accompanied by a health certificate.

The centre will closely monitor the situation and review the import requirements when necessary.

The UK has not exported any frozen or chilled beef to Hong Kong since mad-cow disease cases were detected in the country in 1996.
