India to export 1.8 million tonnes of oilmeal to Vietnam
Indian animal feed companies may export 1.7-1.8 million tonnes of oilmeal used in animal feed to Vietnam this year, said Ashok Sethia, chairman of the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA).
Sethia has led a delegation of 15 Indian animal feed firms to visit Vietnam to find new clients for oilmeals due to a drop in oilmeal consumption in traditional Southeast Asian markets, particularly Vietnam.
SEA seeks to conduct a study on the demand for oilmeal products and quality requirements in the country.
SEA also wants to improve ties and explore opportunities for cooperation with Vietnamese oilseed crushers and processors, vegetable oil refiners, feed processing plants, and importers of oilmeals and oils.
India is a leading oilmeal supplier to Southeast Asia, exporting about 1.7 million tonnes to Vietnam last year.
India is one of the leading suppliers of oil meals to Southeast Asia , selling soybean meal, rapeseed meal, groundnut meal and rice bran.
Last year, India reportedly exported 1.7 million tons of oil meals, valued at $800 million, to Vietnam.
