ISA develops technique to remove fishy taint in eggs
ISA (Institut de Selection Animale), the layer breeding division of Hendrix Genetics, has developed the techniques to perform a genetic testing procedure to remove the fishy taint in eggs caused by TMA in layers.
A large-scale screening programme of ISA Pue Lines has successfully removed the fishy taint phenotype in the lines.
All grandparents stock placed in ISA after January 2008 is free of the fishy taint phenotype, according to Hendrix Genetics. That enables the ISA to deliver to clients parent stock flocks that produce commercial layers without any sensitivity of TMA gene.
The first parent stock flock that will eventually produce 100 percent fishy taint-free eggs was placed in May 2008.
ISA has obtained the exclusive rights to the technology.
