Philippine feedmillers lobby for removal of feed tariffs

The top feedmillers in the Philippines recently formed an alliance to urge the government to remove tariffs on raw materials for feed.

The Philippine Association of Feed Millers, Inc. (PAFMI), National Federation of Hog Farmers, Inc. (NFHFI), and the National Federation of Egg Producers of the Philippines, Inc (NFEPP) called for the removal of tariffs of soy, soymeal and dried distillers grain soluble (DDGS).

The group said that prices of these raw materials in the world market have risen such that it becomes economically unviable to produce animal feeds without significantly raising prices to recover cost.

Soy and soybean meal prices have nearly doubled their 2006 values, the group reiterated.

Currently, tariff on soy, soymeal and DDGS is three percent.

The group explained that these raw materials are not produced locally and that removing tariffs would not hurt any local producers.
