Nippon Suisan closes Chilean processing plant
Nippon Suisan closed its Chilean processing plant last Wednesday (May 28, 2008).
The company citing losses as the main reason for closing the plant, adding that it has incurred total losses of US$10 million since the plant's opening in 2007.
THE closure of Nipón Suisan's Chilean subsidiary Salmones Antartica's meant 400 plus employees. Would be losing their jobs.
Chile's salmon industry was hit with a debilitating virus last year which caused extensive losses to producers.
Nippon Suisan, one of the major seafood companies in Japan, announced it would consolidate its Chilean operations last year.
