China's January-April farm products export, import rise over 17%
The farm products exports and imports of China in January-April 2012 increased 17.7% on-year to US$54.66 billion, declared the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) on Thursday (May 31).
Of the total, exports increased 3.3% on-year to US$19.48 billion while imports hiked 27.6% on-year to US$35.18 billion. Accordingly, the country's trade surplus in farm products expanded by 80.3% on-year to US$15.7 billion.
According to statistics from MOA, China's grain imports surged 402.9% on-year in volume to 4.849 million tonnes and 305.9% on-year in value to US$1.64 billion in January-April, while grain exports declined 12.1% on-year in volume to 303,000 tonnes and 4.2% on-year in value to US$220 million.
During the same period, sugar imports of China hiked 242.2% on-year in volume to 810,000 tonnes and 180.6% on-year in value to US$510 million.
