Vietnamese tuna exports to Netherlands up 64% annually
With an annual growth of 64% during the past years, Vietnam's exports of tuna to the Netherlands have steadily increased, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
The Southeast Asian country's tuna export volume to the Netherlands accounts for 13% of the total volume of fish the European country imports from developing countries,
The Netherlands is the promising market for Vietnamese tuna, the VASEP said, adding the country imports 900 tonnes of tuna products every year.
Vietnamese exporters should focus on value-added tuna products, which are most favourable for Dutch, the association said.
Tuna is an important Vietnamese seafood product for export. In 2011, the country earned US$379.3 million from tuna export, up 29.4% on year. Of the amount, exports to the Netherlands hit US$5.72 million.
