Besieged Polish meat finds ally on Japan

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso has defended the quality of meat imports from Poland Thursday (May 31), stating Japan's strict regulations was met by Polish meat exporters.

Russia has banned Polish meat due to quality concerns and Germany is likely to follow suit.

Japan has allowed its tightly-regulated meat market to Polish exporters in February 2006, throwing support for the beleaguered meat.

Russia's ban on Polish meat is a major part of a deepening political crisis between Moscow and Brussels.  The embargo was imposed in November 2005.

EU experts have since rejected Moscow's arguments.
