India's grain stock surpasses 54 million tonnes

 

 

As of March 1, 2012, India's grain stock with government procurement agencies reached 54.43 million tonnes, including 33.18 million tonnes of rice and 21.25 million tonnes of wheat, stated an official release.

 

Wheat procurement for Rabi marketing season 2011-12 was 28.34 million tonnes, against 22.51 million tonnes procured last year.

 

This comprises 2.06 million tonnes under TPDS and 5.72 lakh tonnes under other schemes. Total off take of wheat has been 22.05 lakh tonnes comprising of 1.62 million tonnes under TPDS and 5.84 lakh tonnes under other schemes.

 

In respect of AAY, the allotment during the month was 5.73 lakh tonnes, against which the off take was 5.54 lakh tonnes, which represents 96.7% offtake. The total allotment of wheat under TPDS, including BPL, APL and AAY, was 1.96 million tonnes, against which the total off take was 1.62 million tonnes, representing an overall percentage 82.9% offtake.

 

The BPL allotment of wheat was 4.85 lakh tonnes, against which the off take was 5.05 lakh tones, representing an offtake of 104%. In respect of AAY, the allotment was 2.79 lakh tonnes, against which the off take was 2.58 lakh tonnes, which represents 92.5% offtake, the release added.
