Kazakhstan to export 30,000 tonnes of grain to China

Kazakhstan intends to supply 30,000 tonnes of its grain to China in the near future, Food Contract Corporation department on foreign economic activity director Daulet Uvashev said.

"We have already supplied 20,000 tonnes of grain to Chine and we plan to supply 30,000 tonnes of grain," Uvashev said.

Earlier it was reported that since the beginning of 2010, Kazakhstan exported its wheat in the Chinese market for the first time. Prime Minister Karim Masimov repeatedly stated about that the Kazakh grain must gain access to foreign markets not only in the direction of the West, but also to the East, namely in neighbouring China. An agreement was reached between the Food Contract Corporation and Cofco on the initial supply of Kazakh wheat.

"At present, the Kazakh government has set purchase price in the domestic market for local food wheat at US$235 per tonne. Regarding prices for our grain, it is a subject of the detailed talks," Uvashev said.

According to him, Chine agreed to provide transit through its territory for the supply of Kazakh grain to the countries of South-East Asia, namely Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.
