Vietnam's Ca Mau posts gains in seafood exports

Vietnam's southernmost province of Ca Mau has earned more than US$118 million from seafood exports so far this year, posting on-year rise of 30%, the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said.

The total export value will likely rise to more than US$750 million by the year's end as the province boosts harvesting aquatic products from the sea and ponds, according to the department.

Ca Mau is one of the largest aquatic products suppliers in Vietnam, accounting for 7.4% of the country's total shrimp output, and nearly 30% of the Mekong Delta region's.

In 2009, the province exported notched up $600 million from exporting 80,000 tonnes of aquatic products, down 5% from previous year.
