India abandons wheat imports

High prices have forced India to abandon plans to buy a million tonnes of imported wheat.

The Indian Government will now only buy 300,000 tonnes, with the global price of wheat at around US$260 a tonne, much higher than last year.

It says further tenders have not been ruled out.
