USDA to inspect fresh beef production in Brazil

USDA officials will travel to Santa Catarina early next month to inspect the Brazilian state's fresh beef production conditions.

This follows a discussion by US and Brazilian delegates of bilateral issues at a meeting recently held in capital Brasilia. Brazil wants to export fresh beef products to the US while the US wants to export cattle and beef products to Brazil.

Brazil is concerned that despite the state's FMD-free status, there has been no progress of beef export from Santa Catarina to the US, according to Keith Williams, press secretary of the USDA.

Williams added that one of US' major concerns is a lack of access for US beef, beef products and live cattle.
