Malaysian pork sellers plan halt of sales three days a week
The Malaysian Pork Sellers Association plans to get its members to stop pork sales for three days a week starting June 8 if ex-farm prices continue to increase.
The ex-farm price had increased dramatically since early this year but the Federation of Livestock Farmers Associations Malaysia refused to discuss the matter with pork sellers, according to report by The Star Online.
Goh Chui Lai, chairman of Malaysian Pork Sellers Association, said the ex-farm price of pork fell to RM4 per kilo early this year but rose RM1.50 in the past two months.
Calling the increase 'ridiculous', Goh said pork farmers had strategically planned for the price increase in conjunction with festive seasons and that rising the price due to high production costs was 'just an excuse'.
