US pharmaceutical firm Eli Lilly to boost its animal health division

US pharmaceutical conglomerate Eli Lilly and Co. in Indiana plans to boost its animal health division through its acquisition of another pharmaceutical firm Kansas-based Ivy Animal Health, Incorporated.

After the acquisition, Ivy will be an operating unit of Elanco Animal Health (a division of Eli Lilly). Last year, Elanco brought in US$875.5 million in revenue, a small portion of Lilly's total of US$15.7 billion.

Beef cattle growth promotants are Ivy's principal products as it also maintains a database on nutritional and health information for more than 60 million animals.

Ivy will continue to operate from its Overland Park, Kansas location after the deal closes, according to Lilly.
