Ukraine's May grain exports down 41%
From 1.99 million tonnes in the same period in April, Ukraine's grain exports dropped 41% to 1.17 million tonnes in May 1-25, analyst ProAgro said on Monday (May 28).
ProAgro said in a report that Ukraine had exported 859,140 tonnes of corn, 174,720 tonnes of wheat and 100,170 tonnes of barley so far in May.
It said Ukrainian corn went mostly to Egypt (362,500 tonnes), Spain (107,150 tonnes) and South Korea (115,500 tonnes).
Ukraine exported wheat mostly to Israel (54,100 tonnes), Tunisia (34,600 tonnes) and Syria (12,000 tonnes). The former Soviet republic exported its barley mostly to Saudi Arabia.
Ukraine harvested 56.7 million tonnes of grain in 2011 and plans to export up to 22 million tonnes of grain in the 2011-12 season.
