Chinese company builds eco-friendly pig farm in Zhejiang


 

Zhejiang province based Weimeisi Livestock Company has started to construct a eco-friendly pig farm in Taishun district, located near to Wenzhou city. The foundation stone for the new pig farm was laid on Tuesday afternoon (May 29).

 

When completed in December this year, the company will import 600 heads of pure breed pigs from the United Kingdom and from then on, cross-breeding process will begin.

 

Weimeisi envisaged that by February 2010, the company will be able to supply quality pork to residents of Wenzhou. Annual hog production is expected to reach 100,000 heads per year.

 

The entire farm area spans 66.7 ha, of which the pig farm will take up 14 ha. A fruit orchard and tea plantation will occupy the remaining area. Pig's waste from the farm will be treated before they are discharged so as to minimize environmental pollution.
