Scotland warns against cheap agricultural imports
The National Farmers Union of Scotland (NFUS) reiterated the dangers of cheaper agricultural imports produced at lower standards.
NFUS expressed concerns that any deal that fails to recognise standards of food production could have adverse consequences for Scotland and the rest of the EU.
The proposed tariff cuts on agricultural imports in the EU raised worries that European farmers would have to compete with cheaper imports of lower standard.
Farmers also worry that the cuts will lead to major reductions in farm income and food production.
NFUS chief executive James Withers said the proposals could penalise producers who have striven to raise production standards.
