India urges UAE to lift ban on poultry items

India on Monday (May 28) asked the UAE government to end its ban on India's poultry products.

At a meeting, Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath took up the issue of lifting the ban India's poultry products with the UAE's Minister of Economy Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi.

The UAE in turn referred to anti-dumping measures on its products at the first meeting of the India-UAE Trade Policy Forum.

India suffered a bird flu outbreak last year which saw the culling of thousands of chickens. During the period, chicken sales nosedived on consumer fears and markets in the Middle East banned Indian poultry products.
