Lithuania's Krekanavos sets up office in Latvia

Lithuania's Krekenavos mesa, a major Lithuanian meat packer, has put up a branch office in Latvia.

The company says it is Lithuania's biggest pig and cattle slaughter-house complete with a meat processing and packing facility. It is able to process 150,000 pigs and 50,000 cattle heads per year, which roughly accounts for a quarter of the national total.

Krekenavos is part of the Vikonda group controlled by one of Lithuania's most controversial personalities, the businessman and politician Viktor Uspaskich.

Krekenavos mesa's sister companies in the Vikonda family are Krekenavos agrofirma, a big fresh, semi-cured and smoked meat producer and Kedainiu konservu fabrikas food cannery.
