EU pig processing plants' labour costs vary
The average gross wage of workers in pig meat processing plants in France is almost double that in Germany.
This is according to a report from the French institute Institut du Porc (IFIP).
IFIP has compared labour costs between three European countries: France, Spain and Germany, according to BPEX.
This is a difficult task as costs depend on the type of cutting plant. Slaughtering costs vary between €0.06 (US$0.08) and €0.12 (US$0.15) per kilogramme cwe. Cutting costs roughly vary between €0.10 (US$0.13) and €0.50 (US$0.64) per kilogramme cwe.
Labour accounts for between 71% and 76% of total costs.
