Non-genetically Engineered Soy To New Zealand, But Not Australia
Last month, Inghams, the largest poultry supplier in Australia, told Greenpeace Australia Pacific that it could not source non-genetically engineered (GE) soy in the quantity and quality needed to feed its chickens.
However, recent campaigning in New Zealand against Inghams customer McDonalds has seen them commit to seeking a non-GE feed supply for their chicken products. Inghams will provide non-GE soy from their next two shipments, but did not commit to sourcing non-GE soy for the longer term.
Inghams is the biggest cause of GE contamination in the New Zealand food chain through their importation of GE soybeans for chicken feed.
