Peru's exports of aquatic products reached US$89.4 million during the first quarter of 2014, an increase of 62% on-year, according to the Association of Exporters (ADEX).
ADEX Capture Industry and Service Management says the country's aquaculture is "showing clear signs of recovery".
The better performance of two main products: shrimp and scallops contributed to the growth in Peru's aquaculture exports. Other important products include tilapia, trout and paiche.
Of total exports, whole shrimp and shrimp tail shipments accounted for US$48.7 million. The main markets for these products were US, Spain, South Korea and France. Scallop exports totalled US$38.6 million, with France, United States, Belgium, Canada and Italy being the major buyers.
Sales of trout overseas generated US$1.6 million in the first three months, and the largest markets are Canada, United States, Germany, Sweden and Spain. Tilapia exports totalled US$399,000.
