Polish food exports rise in Q1 despite pork bans

Poland's Agricultural Market Agency (ARR) says that Polish food exports rose 7% on-year in 1Q14, despite the ban on Polish pork by Russia, China, Japan and South Korea.

Russia banned the import of Polish pork in February after African Swine Fever (ASF) was detected in wild boars in Poland. China, Japan and South Korea soon followed suit.

About 80% of Polish food exports were shipped to EU member states in the first quarter of 2014, with sales exceeding €5 billion (US$6.83 billion).

In 2013, Russia was the third biggest importer of Polish food, behind Germany and the UK.
