Cargill to open Brazil soy crushing plant today

Cargill Wednesday (May 27) will open a soy crushing plant in Brazil's leading soy producing state of Mato Grosso, local news service Estado reported Tuesday.

Cargill's new plant in Primavera do Leste will have the capacity to crush 3,000 tonnes of soy per day. The plant will produce 2,300 tonnes of soymeal and 560 tonnes of soyoil, Estado said.

The plant required an investment of 210 million Brazilian real (US$104 million). Cargill was unavailable for further comment.

Brazil is the No. 2 producer of soy worldwide.
