Ukrainian grain to compete with Russia and Kazakhstan

In the 2009-10 grain season, Ukrainian grain traders will have to work in conditions of hard competition with Russia and Kazakhstan, according to Anastasia Ivasenko, analyst of APK-Inform Agency.

The market showed that government relations on foreign markets and producing of high quality competitive grains should play an important role in plant growing, Ivasenko said.

She said the problem of Ukrainian grain quality in the following season will become a sticking point, which competitors Russia and Kazakhstan will use against Ukraine.

Also, the new United grain company in Russia will next season act as a strong competitor of Ukrainian traders, she said.

In 2009-10, Ukraine's grain exports could decrease 1.6 times from the current season, Ivasenko said.

However, she said the exports could exceed previous seasons' figures thus Ukraine shows favourable prospects on the world grain market.
