Lithuania's livestock and poultry sales decline
The purchase of crop sector products, livestock, poultry and eggs from Lithuania's farms fell in Q1 2011, as compared with Q1 of 2010 whereas the purchase of pigs, natural milk, sheep and goats increased, Statistics Lithuania said Wednesday (May 25).[KBD1]
The purchase of cereals plunged by 45% to 227,300 tonnes, vegetables down by 29% to 12,700 tonnes, potatoes down by 44% to 10,200 tonnes, and fruit by 69% to 1,100 tonnes, it said.
The purchase of livestock and poultry (live weight) edged down by 0.2%, on-year, to 70,300 tonnes in January-April. The purchase of cattle shrank by 0.4% to 21,700 tonnes, and poultry down by 2% to 30,500 tonnes.
The purchase of pigs rose by 4% to 18,000 tonnes, sheet and goats up by 68% to 37 tonnes.
The purchase of natural milk rose by 6% to 346,100 tonnes, whereas the purchase of eggs shrank by 10% to 132.1 million units.
