Vietnamese seafood exports maintain upward trend

Vietnam's seafood exports have increased steadily since early this year, bringing the five-month seafood export turnover to US$842 million, a year-on-year increase of 4.37 percent.

Vietnam's seafood exports grossed an estimated US$170 million in May. Thus, the country has met 32.38 percent of this year's seafood export target to date.

The results were attributed to seafood exporters' efforts to enter new markets, including the European Union (EU) and China, as they are facing difficulties in the US market.

England, Germany, France, Belgium, and Italy are lucrative markets for Vietnam's seafood. England and Belgium alone account for 40 percent of the country's total export value to the EU.

Experts also forecast that exports of aquatic products to China would rise by 10-15 percent in the near future.
