High Beef Prices Expected For US Memorial Day Weekend

More beef is sold in the US over the Memorial Day weekend than at any other time of the year. And this year, it could cost more than ever. Beef economists say the record high prices are the result of a limited supply. The supply shortage is due largely to a ban on imports of Canadian livestock, which came during last year¡¯s Mad Cow Disease scare.

Meanwhile, drought conditions have dried out many pastures in Eastern Colorado, and caused local ranchers to get rid of their herds. Thus, despite the high prices, local ranchers are not able to take advantage of them.
