Brazil sees 2.8% growth in animal feed sector output

A 2.8% growth in 2012 against 2011 to 66.02 million tonnes of feed and 2.58 million tonnes of mineral supplements is being expected by the Brazilian Syndicate of Animal Feed Industries (Sindiracões).

In 2011 the sector grew 5.2%, to BRL40 billion (US$19.7 billion) and 64.5 million tonnes of feed and 2.35 million tonnes of mineral supplements.

According to Sindirações, the sector's deceleration has been due to a decline in exports since 2010, as a result of exchange rate depreciation; to bans on Brazilian animal feed imports imposed by the US, Russia and South Africa; and to a reduction in international purchases as a result of the global crisis.
