China's January-April soy imports gain 22%
From January to April 2012, China imported 18.15 million tonnes of soy, higher than 22% in the same period of 2011, based on statistics released by China's General Administration of Customs.
In April, China's soy imports reached 4.88 million tonnes, reflecting a growth of 26% on-year. The average import price was US$552.69 per tonne last month.
From January to April, the US was the largest soy import source, and China's soy imports from the country amounted to 12.32 million tonnes, down 7.39% on-year.
The country's soy imports from Brazil, the second largest import source, surged 335.75% on-year to 5.11 million tonnes in the first four months, and imports from Argentina totalled 612,645 tonnes, up 606.01% from the same period of 2011.
