Bird flu confirmed in Wales

A case of bird flu has been confirmed in northern Wales, but scientists have said it is not the highly pathogenic H5N1 strain.

The chief veterinary officer for Wales, Dr Christianne Glossop, said low pathogenic strain of bird flu was found at a farm in north Wales.

Even though the strain was low pathogenic, contingency plans have been activated at the affected area with a 1 km restriction zone set up around it.

Chickens onsite were slaughtered and bird movement in the area have been banned.
