Spain funds seafood sector

 
 

The Council of Ministers of Spain has approved the distribution of EUR 18.12 (US$22.39) million for the country's seafood sector.

 

The autonomous communities will receive EUR 14.32 (US$17.78) million to balance the contributions of the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs (MARM) corresponding to the Directorate-General of Fisheries Ordinance for the co-funding of the European Fisheries Fund (EFF), and the commitments of the autonomous communities.

 

Among the cities of Spain that will be given a share of the fund are: Andalusia, EUR 2 (US$2.48) million; Galicia, EUR 6.3 (US$7.83) million; Catalonia, EUR 1.3 (US$1.61) million; and the Valencian Community, EUR 3 (US$3.72) million.

 

The Cabinet has also approved the allocation of EUR 3.8 (US$4.72) million for the development of the National Marine Farming Plans for 2010.

 

These funds will be distributed among the autonomous communities of Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia, Andalusia, Murcia, the Valencian Community, Catalonia, the Balearics, the Canary Islands and Ceuta.
