Bangladesh taking steps to boost frozen shrimp exports

The Bangladesh government has implemented schemes that will further tap the potential for frozen shrimp exports to Europe. However, that market's prospects rest on the results of a EC delegation that will examine the country's shrimp production facilities in November.

Key infrastructure in the production process have already been improved and modernised. Use of plastic fish boxes have been made compulsory instead of bamboo boxes and plastic drums.

The fisheries and livestock minister, Abdullah Al-Noman said the government will take all necessary measures for the development of this sector which is the second largest export earner for the country. Last, year Bangladesh earned Tk 23, 630 million by exporting over 540,000 tonnes of shrimp.
