Malaysia's Global Hi-Q enters second phase of breeding venture

Global Hi-Q Bio-Tech (M) Sdn Bhd's tiger grouper fish breeding project enters its second phase with the completion of the RM13 million nursery in Teluk Dalam, Malaysia.

The project is a result of a partnership between Global Hi-Q Malaysia and its Taiwan-based parent company Hi-Q Bio-Tech International (Taiwan) Ltd.

According to Johnson Chang, the company's managing director, Malaysia is very suitable to this project because of its geographical location and climate.

Global Hi-Q aims to tap into the growing demand for live tiger grouper fish.

In China, the demand for the product was about 8,000 tonnes in 2005 and continues to increase, said Chang.

The tiger grouper was valued at US$10 a kilogramme in 2006 and US$16 a kilogramme last year, he added.
