Perdue plant resumes operations after suspension

A chicken processing farm operated by Perdue Farms in Kentucky has been allowed to resume operations after a suspension by the USDA.

The farm in Cromwell, in Ohio County, was ordered to shut down once the chickens remaining at the facility were processed.

Spokeswoman for the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service, Amanda Eamich, said an inspector in the plant raised a food safety issue at the plant and Perdue was given 72 hours to submit a plan to address the concern. It was not clear what issue was raised.

The submitted plan was deemed inadequate and the suspension was ordered.

A later plan was accepted and the plant has now resumed operations.
