South Australia lobby group opposes Viterra bid for ABB

Lobby group the South Australian Farmers' Federation's grains industry committee Friday said it is opposed to an attempt by Canada's Viterra Inc. to take over agribusiness ABB Grain Ltd.

"This takeover isn't in the best interests of the South Australian grains industry and the state's grain growers," Michael Schaefer, chair of the committee, said in a statement.

The elected committee, which represents grain farmers in South Australia where ABB is based, said it wants competition that can lead to efficiencies in the state's export grain logistics system.

"We also feel that the bid isn't high enough," he said.
