Vietnam reports four new bird flu outbreaks

 
 

Vietnam's veterinary authorities have reported new outbreaks of highly pathogenic bird flu to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

 

The four new outbreaks started between April 20 and May 14.

 

All cases occurred in farms, and are widely distributed with one each in Tinh Son in Quang Ngai province, Thien Phu in Thanh Hoa province, and two outbreaks in the Mekong River Delta at Tan Hoi Trung in Dong Thap province and Nguyen Van Thanh in Vinh Long province.

 

In total, 12,342 birds were involved in the outbreaks, affecting 589 and killing 503, while 4,339 birds were culled.

 

The presence of H5N1 virus sub-type has been confirmed.
