BIOTEC appoints new executive director

The National Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Kanyawim Kirtikara as the new BIOTEC executive director.

 

Dr. Kanyawim replaces Professor Dr.Morakot Tanticharoen who completed an eight-year term.

 

Dr. Kanyawim joined BIOTEC in 1998 as a researcher at BIOTEC bioassay laboratory. She rose to become director of BIOTEC Central Research Unit in 2005 and deputy director of BIOTEC in charge of capacity building in late 2007.

 

Despite her administrative responsibility, Dr. Kanyawim continues to be engaged in research, focusing on prostaglandin biosynthesis in both mammalian and invertebrate models, and to publish both research and reviews papers. She is also actively involved in research investigating natural products from microorganisms found in Thailand.

 

Dr. Kanyawim is also presently a member and part of the secretariat team of The Thai Academy of Science and Technology (TAST).
