Pasteurized Eggs' sales up 43 percent

National Pasteurized Eggs (NPE) has reported of a 43-percent increase in sales for the past year despite rising cost of raw eggs.

NPE pasteurized about 25 million eggs in 2 months, up 43 percent on-year.

NPE president Greg West attributed the result to the food service sector, where there are an increasing number of entities committing to the exclusive use of pasteurized shell and liquid eggs.

The pasteurizing process kills salmonella bacteria and viruses such as bird flu, therefore reducing the risk of salmonella poisoning.
